NYC and Ovum reassert themselves through Christopher "MANIK," whose city of residence is proudly parenthesized on the download listing.  Past releases impress with a deep round production quality, and this record as a whole is the most impressive yet.  All five tracks of his second EP for Josh Wink's Ovum are desirable.  The dreamy interpretation of time-tested acid bounce on the title track, and accented take "Ditmar's Blvd," remind that this has been a good year for the TB-303 [Transistorized Bass] as well as other classic Roland instruments like the TR-909 and 808 [Transistor Rhythm], and emulations thereof.  What better accompaniment to economic downturn than the reality-twisting sound of waveshaping.  Anyway, on the flipside he gets funkier, with effectively sparing vocals and the downsliding bassline of "She's Slow Motion."  The downloadable version of the EP includes an also vinyl-worthy track called "DMX."  Manik called the play: "Fresh" is the appropriate word.
